The Embroidery Project tells a story — a journey we would love for you to join. It began in Oxford, thanks to a small Social Entrepreneurship Award, and led us to an Indigenous community in Oaxaca, Mexico.
Welcome to our adventure!
Every stitch changes a life
In Oaxaca, every embroidered piece holds stories, memories, and traditions passed from mother to daughter across generations.
The Story of
Doña Paulina
More than 20 years ago, Doña Paulina dreamed of a different future for herself and her daughters. She was not alone: many women in her community shared the same challenges, facing the uncertainty of providing for their families in a rural environment dependent on subsistence farming. With courage, she brought them together, and together they formed a textile cooperative. By uniting their talent, their hard work, and their dreams, they hoped their craft would travel far beyond Oaxaca.
More than just an income
In these communities, textile craftsmanship is much more than a source of income: it is empowerment, the preservation of traditions, and a bridge to new opportunities. Each embroidered piece holds stories of identity and culture, handcrafted with patience and passion from one generation to the next.
The Challenge Ahead
However, bringing this artisanal legacy to the world was not easy. The distance from major cities and the lack of sales channels meant that the talent and creativity of these women remained confined within adobe walls and home workshops, invisible to those who could truly value and share their work.
The Embroidery Project was born with the purpose of connecting these Indigenous artisans with consumers around the world through unique clothing for babies and girls. Every stitch reflects talent, culture, and empowerment, transforming ancestral creativity into a bridge toward new opportunities.
The Paulina Baby Romper
From this collaboration comes the Paulina Romper — a garment that carries tradition, creativity, and care in every thread. Each piece becomes a bridge: connecting cultures, preserving heritage, and transforming lives.
Every garment is an opportunity — a thread that ties Oaxaca to the world, a story that inspires and travels far beyond where it was born.
